Low-dimensional Representation of Faces in Higher Dimensions of the Face Space

چکیده

Faces can be represented eeciently as a weighted linear combination of the eigenvectors of a covariance matrix of face images. It has also been shown J. Opt. Soc. Am. 4, 519{524 (1987)] that identiiable faces can be made by using only a subset of the eigenvectors, i.e., those with the largest eigenvalues. This low-dimensional representation is optimal in that it minimizes the squared error between the representation of the face image and the original face image. The present study demonstrates that, whereas this low-dimensional representation is optimal for identifying the physical categories of face, like sex, it is not optimal for recognizing the faces (i.e., discriminating known from unknown faces). Various low-dimensional representations of the faces in the higher dimensions of the face space (i.e., the eigenvectors with smaller eigenvalues) provide better information for face recognition.

The fermion sign problem is studied in the path integral formalism. The standard picture of Fermi liquids is first critically analyzed, pointing out some of its rather peculiar properties. The insightful work of Ceperley in constructing fermionic path integrals in terms of constrained world-lines is then reviewed. In this representation, the minus signs associated with Fermi-Dirac statistics a...

Face Detection at the Low Light Environments

Today, with the advancement of technology, the use of tools for extracting information from video are much wider in terms of both visual power and the processing power. High-speed car, perfect detection accuracy, business diversity in the fields of medical, home appliances, smart cars, humanoid robots, military systems and the commercialization makes these systems cost effective. Among the most...

Determining Effective Features for Face Detection Using a Hybrid Feature Approach

Detecting faces in cluttered backgrounds and real world has remained as an unsolved problem yet. In this paper, by using composition of some kind of independent features and one of the most common appearance based approaches, and multilayered perceptron (MLP) neural networks, not only some questions have been answered, but also the designed system achieved better performance rather than the pre...

Design and Implementation of an Intelligent Photogrammetric System for Control and Guidance of Reconstructive Surgery

The digital image contains efficient and useful information which enables measurement and data acquisition. One of the methods that facilitate measuring and interpreting objects, using the image solely, is close-range photogrammetry. Among the various fields of science, whenever a precise measurement is required, this approach can be applied. One of these fields is Medical Sciences that due to ...

Low-frequency oscillations employ a general coding of the spatio-temporal similarity of dynamic faces

Brain networks use neural oscillations as information transfer mechanisms. Although the face perception network in occipitotemporal cortex is well-studied, contributions of oscillations to face representation remain an open question. We tested for links between oscillatory responses that encode facial dimensions and the theoretical proposal that faces are encoded in similarity-based "face space...
